How to install CDONTS in Windows Server 2003?

Microsoft has discontinued the use of Collaboration Data Objects (CDO) for NTS (CDONTS). Therefore, ASP applications that use CDONTS do not function on a Windows Server 2003-based computer.

Windows Server 2003 provides improved alternatives to CDONTS (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315197 ) but it requires re-writing the ASP code.

If you want to continue using CDONTS in your ASP scripts you can install CDONTS by following these steps:

1)      First, be sure you have a mail enable application (like Exchange) or other SMTP server. Make sure it is running.

2)      Just copy cdonts.dll file from you old Windows 2000 server or download it from the web (see below).

3)      Copy it to C:Windows\System32 folder

4)      Register the CDONTS.DLL component on your server by clicking [Start] -> [Run] and type:

regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\cdonts.dll [Enter]

Apply to: ASP Script code.
